A 26-year-old German man wanted in his country for involvement in a dark-web drug trade worth 17.5 million baht has been arrested in Bangkok.
Immigration police arrested David Maas at the Phra Khanong BTS station on Monday, said Pol Maj Gen Surachate Hakparn, acting chief of the Immigration Bureau, during a briefing on seven recent cases involving foreign criminal suspects.
The six other cases involved romance and call centre scams and visa overstayers, with suspects from South Korea and Pakistan.
Mr Maas was wanted on a warrant issued by the Stade District Court in Germany for selling illicit drugs. He is accused of being part of a gang that offered different kinds of narcotics for sale online and requested payment in cryptocurrency like bitcoin.
He and his accomplices were also alleged to have stolen mobile phones and computers from a shop in Germany on Nov 2 last year.
After German police arrested his accomplices, Mr Maas fled to Thailand in January, said Pol Maj Gen Surachate.
Immigration police found that the suspect had also overstayed his visa. He entered the country on Jan 16 and his visa expired on Feb 14.
