FRANKFURT (Reuters) - Aachen is set to become the second German city to impose a ban on high-pollution diesel vehicles after a judge on Friday ruled that prohibiting such cars is the most likely solution for improving inner city air quality.
An Aachen court ruled on Friday that a ban could come at the beginning of 2019 if no other measures to reduce pollution were found.
The Aachen court follows a landmark ruling by Germany' top administrative court in February which threw open the door to potential inner-city bans on older diesel models in Germany following reports of persistently high levels of nitrogen oxides in areas of heavy traffic.
The city of Hamburg this year blocked diesel models that fail to meet the latest Euro-6 emissions standards from using selected trunk roads.
