An eight-year-old boy has been found safe after taking his parents’ car for high-speed joyride down a motorway.
The child, a fan of go-karts and bumper cars, took the Volkswagen Golf automatic from his home in Soest, west Germany.
He then headed towards Dortmund before feeling “uncomfortable” as he hit speeds of 87mph (140km/h), police said.
He was found at a service station by his mum and officers at around 1.30am local time (12.30am UK time).
“I just wanted to drive a little bit,” he told NRW Soest police, who tracked him down after his family raised the alarm about an hour earlier.
The little boy’s adventure down the A44 did not cause any damage to people or property, the force confirmed.
The eight-year-old managed to park the car, turn on the hazard lights and put up a warning triangle, as he waited to be brought home.
