Geri Halliwell faces £1 million book company debt after husband Christian is sacked from Red Bull

Geri Horner is facing yet another setback after it was revealed that her book company has accumulated debts of £1 million.

It comes just days after her husband Christian Horner, 51, was sacked as boss of Red Bull following allegations of a workplace sexting scandal and a poor first half of the season for the Formula 1 team.

Now Geri may be dealing with financial troubles of her own, as her company Falcon Queen Productions has been plunged into the red.

According to The Mirror, last year Geri faced a deficit of £750,000, in comparison to £276,000 the previous year.

The paper reported that, however, “her main company, Wonderful Productions, earned £2.16m in the 12 months to August last year.”

Wonderful Productions was set up by the star in 1997 at the height of the Spice Girls’ fame and pools earnings from her music career and other brand deals.

Her husband Christian’s departure from Red Bull marks the end of the longest reign in any Formula One team’s principal's role in the sport. Addressing the news, Red Bull said: “Red Bull has released Christian Horner from his operational duties with effect from today, Wednesday 9 July 2025, and has appointed Laurent Mekies as CEO of Red Bull Racing.”

After the explosive texting scandal, Geri stood by her husband, who vehemently denied the claims. Amidst the controversy, Horner was told by his wife to make it “all go away”, which he successfully managed for 16 months.

After a three-week investigation, the racing boss was cleared of any allegations, including coercive behaviour towards his colleague and internal investigations of wrongdoing.

One day after the verdict was reached, screenshots emerged depicting conversations between Horner and a Red Bull employee. The file reportedly contained texts and images leaked to over 200 people in the sport, including owners Liberty Media, team bosses, and the press.

Horner was cleared for a second time after the female employee appealed against the investigation findings, which were upheld.

It is understood that an independent lawyer interviewed Horner for almost nine hours.

Netflix’s hugely successful Formula One programme, Drive to Survive, depicted Horner’s immediate reaction to the bombshell news of the alleged texts.

“The higher you rise, the sharper the knives,” he said.

“I've reached the top of my game, and I never thought in a million years I'd have a challenge like this in my career,” Horner continued. “It's a crucial time of year, in a job that I do, you're the front face of the organisation.

“You can either hide away or you can get out there and face it.”

Horner continued to lead Red Bull talent Max Verstappen to win a fourth successive world championship, despite falling short of the constructors’ title to competitors McLaren.

That marked the beginning of the end of Red Bull’s dominance, with McLaren now 288 points ahead in the constructors’ standings for the 2025 season.

Since 2005 when Horner joined the team, he successfully led them in two phases to world championships, with drivers Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen, wth eight drivers’ championships and six constructors’ championships.

Oliver Mintzlaff, CEO Corporate Projects and Investments, made a few comments thanking Christian Horner for his work over the last two decades.

He said: “We would like to thank Christian Horner for his exceptional work over the last 20 years.

“With his tireless commitment, experience, expertise, and innovative thinking, he has been instrumental in establishing Red Bull Racing as one of the most successful and attractive teams in Formula One.

“Thank you for everything, Christian, and you will forever remain an important part of our team history.”

Horner will now be replaced as CEO of Red Bull Racing by Laurent Mekies, followed by the promotion of Alan Permane from current Racing Director to Team Principal.

Mekies has been working in F1 since 2001. Speaking of his journey, he said: “The last year and a half has been an absolute privilege to lead the team with Peter,”

“It has been an amazing adventure to contribute to the birth of Racing Bulls together with all our talented people. The spirit of the whole team is incredible, and I strongly believe that this is just the beginning.

“Alan is the perfect man to take over now and continue our path. He knows the team inside out and has always been an important pillar of our early successes.”

Alan Permane added: “I feel very honoured to take on the role as Team Principal and would like to thank Oliver and Helmut for the trust they have shown in me.

“I am looking forward to working with Peter to continue the good work that both him and Laurent have done in taking this team forward. This is a new challenge for me, but I know that I can count on the support of everyone within them.”
