A three-year-old boy has been flown to Perth in a critical condition after being struck by a car in WA's Midwest.

Police say the boy was sitting on a verge on Aaron Close in Rangeway, in Geraldton's suburbs, when he was struck by a Hyundai i30 just after 6pm on Tuesday.

They believe the boy was dragged under the vehicle for a yet-to-be-determined period of time before the car came to a stop.

The three-year-old was taken to Geraldton Hospital for initial treatment, before being transferred to Perth Children's Hospital by the Royal Flying Doctor Service this morning.

The driver of the car, a 46-year-old man, is helping police with their investigation, but no charges have been laid.

The police Major Crash Squad has arrived in Geraldton to assist with inquiries.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has footage relating to the incident is urged to contact police on 131 444.
