Bette Midler asked for an apology from Geraldo Rivera and she got one. But it wasn't without him doubting her side of the story.
Rivera tweeted his response on Friday morning to Midler's recollection of an encounter in the '70s where she claimed the longtime journalist forcibly groped her after he and a producer "pushed" her into a bathroom.
"Although I recall the time @BetteMidler has alluded to much differently than she, that does not change the fact that she has a right to speak out & demand an apology from me, for in the very least, publically embarrassing her all those years ago," wrote Rivera, 74.
"Bette, I apologize."
Midler reminded the public of the first time she revealed her accusation against Rivera in a 1991 interview with Barbara Walters, which she posted to Twitter.
"Tomorrow is my birthday. I feel like this video was a gift from the universe to me," the 71-year-old actress wrote. "Geraldo may have apologized for his tweets supporting Matt Lauer, but he has yet to apologize for this. #MeToo."
Midler was referring to Rivera's remarks defending Matt Lauer, who was fired from NBC News this week after he was accused of sexual misconduct.
Rivera said "news is a flirty business" in defense of his friend.
He later apologized for those remarks, which led Midler to ask for her own apology.
