She emphasized the need for casting that goes beyond the traditional norms, stating that she wants to see more people of color in lead roles in these stories. While acknowledging the current resurgence of rom-coms, Viswanathan hopes that individuals from diverse backgrounds will have increased opportunities in the genre.

Despite some progress towards inclusivity in the industry, Viswanathan highlighted that there is still a noticeable gap, particularly for women of color. She mentioned feeling a specific experience as a woman of color in the entertainment business, indicating that more work needs to be done to achieve equality.

In a recent project titled 'Anyone But You,' Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell starred in a modern adaptation of William Shakespeare's 'Much Ado About Nothing.' The film performed well at the box office, earning $200 million worldwide. Sweeney, who also served as a producer, expressed gratitude to the audience for their support and enthusiasm for the movie.

Following the success of their collaboration, Powell expressed interest in working with Sweeney again in the future. He praised Sweeney's professionalism and expressed eagerness to explore new projects together, inviting script submissions for potential collaborations.

Actress Kate Hudson, known for her roles in '90s rom-coms, shared her perspective on the genre's revival during an appearance on The View. Hudson discussed the challenges of attracting male actors more inclined towards Marvel-style films to romantic projects. She emphasized the importance of quality writing and direction in making romantic films appealing to actors, citing renowned talents like Nora Ephron as examples of creators who brought magic to the classics.
