High-profile solicitor Gerald Kean has admitted that “there was a bit of pressure” on his relationship with girlfriend Sonya Valadi and the pair have now split.
The couple were torn between their romantic and work lives and they failed to strike the perfect balance, causing them the break up earlier this month.
He also said that there was no other party involved and they both remain single.
“It was difficult because I am working full time and I have a lot of commitments in Ireland, and Sonya has commitments in Sweden [where her family live],” he told the Irish Mirror on Sunday.
“It was a tremendous relationship and we had a great time together. But there was a bit of pressure on us and we thought this was the best move.”
“There is no other party involved. We too have too much respect for each other.”
Despite the heartache, Gerald is sure that it was right decision for them as a couple and he is sure they will remain close following the two and a half year romance, RSVP Live reports.
“Sonya is a wonderful girl, she is great fun and great to be with and I am glad that we are remaining close friends.
“It is very important that we are still friends and I am delighted because that friendship means everything to me. Life is too short and everyday could be your last.”
The father-of-one was quick to shut down any talk that either of them have moved on and he said that it is too raw given how recent the spit occurred: “I am single now anyway, that’s for sure. We only just split up. And Sonya is single as well.
“I don’t like any negative energy in a relationship because I don’t think it is worth it.”
News of their break up emerged on yesterday morning. In a statement, he said: “After two and half great years Sonya and I have separated but remain great friends.
“Sonya has returned to her family in Sweden and I continue to live in Drayton Manor.”
