Georgy Girl: The Seekers musical, written by Patrick Edgeworth with Graham Simpson, will have its world premiere in Melbourne in December 2015, before transferring to Sydney in April 2016.
The musical traces the band’s journey from a South Yarra cafe in 1962 to the world stage – a feat they achieved in just three years. They were the first Australian folk-pop group to achieve major chart success in the US and UK with hit songs I’ll Never Find Another You, Georgy Girl and A World of My Own.
They are also the first and only music group to be named Australians of the Year (1967). They still hold the record for the largest single concert crowd in the southern hemisphere - with 200,000 people.
Pippa Grandison will take the role of legendary lead singer Judith Durham, joined by Phillip Lowe as Keith Potger, Mike McLeish as Bruce Woodley and Glaston Toft as Athol Guy.
