Werder Bremen have agreed a fee to sign Celtic target Georgios Giakoumakis, according to a report.
Celtic had already agreed a deal with VVV-Venlo but now Werder Bremen have matched that fee, and the Dutch club expect further bids too.
Celtic hope they can persuade Giakoumakis to sign and get him into the country before next weekend’s clash with Rangers at Ibrox.
But Bremen have now held face-to-face talks with Giakoumakis in Germany and can provide a ‘superior’ financial package.
But the fallen German giants are now in the second tier following relegation from the Bundesliga and Celtic hope that will have an effect.
The Daily Record say there are also approaches from other clubs in Europe as well as the Qatar Stars League.
Giakoumakis has already held talks with Ange Postecoglou over what his role would be at the club.
And VVV chief Marco Bogers said: “Celtic and Werder Bremen have officially approached us, but there are more clubs now showing interest, so the game isn’t over yet. We expect even more clubs to be in touch.
“It must be a good deal for all parties. Everyone must benefit from it. Georgios must have the right feeling about the club and we do have a price in mind that must be put on the table.”
