Georgios Giakoumakis sets out Celtic contract demands as Ange Postecoglou continues new striker hunt

Werder Bremen and Celtic have learned they will have to fork out nearly £600,000 per season to land Greek hitman Georgios Giakoumakis.

The Hoops are hunting for a new forward and appear to be torn between Giakoumakis - who was the Eredivisie's top scorer last season despite VVV-Venlo's relegation - and Frenchman Thomas Henry.

Henry appeared to be off-limits but recent reports suggest a move to Gent has hit the rocks, reopening the door to Ange Postecoglou to make his move.

As for Giakoumakis, he's the cheaper of the two options, available for a bargain fee less than £3m after his team dropped out of the Eredivisie.

Werder Bremen are also in the running for him and he is believed to have flown out to Germany for talks, but nothing in his future is decided just yet with Celtic still viewing him as a viable replacement for Odsonne Edouard.

Greek journalist Giannis Chorianpoulos has been reporting on the situation and he has now revealed that his salary expectations stand at €700,000 per season - around £598,000.

That works out at just more than £11,000 per week - which would put him around the middle bracket of Celtic's earners.

Sources vary on what players earn at Parkhead but most seem to agree that Callum McGregor tops the bill on £20,000 per week.

Odsonne Edouard and Christopher Jullien are other high earners, while £11,000 is close to what Ryan Christie, Ismaila Soro and Vasilis Barkas all take home.
