Georgios Giakoumakis set for Celtic medical as Ange Postecoglou closes in on £2.5m transfer

Celtic appear to be closing in on Georgios Giakoumakis with the Greek hitman set to undergo a medical in Glasgow.

A new striker has been a priority for Ange Postecoglou throughout the window but he was frustrated at failing to land Thomas Henry, who joined Gent.

It had seemed like Giakoumakis, who was the Eredivisie's top scorer last season despite VVV-Venlo's relegation, would also snub them to join Werder Bremen.

But the Bundesliga 2 side couldn't afford his wage demands, reported to be around £15,000 per week.

He walked away from the deal and that opened the door to Celtic to swoop.

Postecoglou has already discussed a move with him using his native Greek tongue to sell him on a move.

And it appears to have struck gold as the Daily Record report he is due in Glasgow's east end to undergo a medical.

It comes amid news that Dundee have made an offer to take Leigh Griffiths on loan.

He hasn't played a minute under Postecoglou so far and will only be pushed further down the pecking order by Giakoumakis' impending arrival.
