Celtic have a clearer run at the proposed Giorgios Giakoumakis transfer after Werder Bremen pulled the plug on a deal.
As first revealed by Record Sport the Parkhead club are keen to sign last season's Eredivisie top-scorer, with manager Ange Postecoglou personally calling the player to sell him on a move.
The VVV Venlo striker also had an offer from fallen German giants Werder Bremen, but the Premiership runners-up have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Giakoumakis.
According to Dutch outlet Limburger the striker "can forget" moving to Germany as his salary demands were considered too high by the Bundesliga II side and Record Sport understands this is the case.
And that's backed up by a report in German paper Bild which states that Bremen are on the verge of completing a deal for an alternative target.
Hannover 96 striker Marvin Ducksch is said to be close to completing a move to the Weser Stadion, with a medical scheduled for Wednesday.
Agent Ersin Akan told Bild: "I am pleased that Hanover and Bremen have come to an agreement and that Marvin's future is secured."
That deal is expected to be worth around €3.5million (£3m), which is the fee the Germans were prepared to pay for Giakoumakis.
The signing of Ducksch would rule out the Greek's arrival, leaving Celtic in pole position to snap him up.
