Georginio Wijnaldum on how Liverpool's dressing room are reacting Man City defeat

Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has insisted his side are ignoring talk that they are Premier League Champions in waiting.

The Reds were handed a huge boost in their bid to end a 30-year wait for a league title after they maintained their 100 percent start to their Premier League season at the weekend, while Manchester City were beaten for the second time this season.

Despite Leicester's James Maddison levelling proceedings with 10 minutes to go at Anfield, a James Milner penalty in the fifth minute of stoppage time secured Jurgen Klopp's side a hard-fought three points.

Then, 24 hours later, City were left shell shocked after Wolves recorded a 2-0 win at the Etihad, leaving the Reds eight points clear at the top of the table heading into the international break.

Since then, pundits have been making bold statements about the title now being in Liverpool's hands.  But Wijnaldum, speaking on international duty with Holland, insists anything can still happen with 30 league games of the current campaign still to play.

Blood Red: Ian Doyle on Liverpool's eight-point lead

"We don't want to think we are already champions. That would be a really wrong thing to do," he told Sky Sports.

"I'm sure the manager will keep us with our feet on the ground and say that we just have to think about ourselves, and try to play good and try to give 100 per cent every week.

"We just have to do what we did before and look at ourselves and not look too much to other teams because we don't have influence on other teams - we can't control the performance of other teams.

"We just have to make sure we are ready for the games that are to come and to make sure we are ready and try to have good results because we know that it can change quickly.

"Then at the end of the season we will see where we stand."
