Georgie Grier plays to packed Edinburgh crowd 24 hours after tearful tweet

Georgie Grier performed her Edinburgh Fringe show to a packed audience just 24 hours after only a single person turned up to watch her.

The actress was left in tears after her one-woman play, Sunsets, was watched by only one spectator on Thursday.

Comedy icons including Sarah Millican, Jason Manford and Dara Ó Briain threw their support behind Georgie after she tweeted how sad she was.

Fans turned out in force to enjoy the actress as she played to a packed room on Friday. Grier joked by telling the crowd “Hello Wembley” before launching into her show.

In a video message, Jason had said: “You’re on the path and it’s just the start, that’s all.”

Grier said she had uploaded the original tweet as an alternative to calling her mum in tears, as she did not want to worry her.

Alongside the image of her crying, she wrote: “There was one person in my audience today when I performed my one woman play, ‘Sunsets’ at #edfringe. It’s fine, isn’t it? It’s fine?”

The single audience member was fellow Fringe performer Sophie Craig.

She claimed Grier has been “so professional and brave” during a performance in which she “gave me everything”. She revealed that the pair hugged following the show.

The Gilded Balloon said tickets for the rest of her run were “selling well” following the viral tweet.
