Georgian GM Pantsulaia Levan wins Chhattisgarh International Grandmaster Chess Championship

RAIPUR: Pantsulaia Levan of Georgia clinched the 2nd Chhattisgarh Chief Minister’s Trophy International Grandmaster Chess Championship title, organised in Chhattisgarh’s capital Raipur from September 18 to 28. Levan continued to top the table throughout the championship and finished with 8.5 points. He won a cash prize of Rs 3,50,000.

There was a three way tie for the runner up trophy. Russian grandmaster Savchenko Boris with 7.5 points and with the highest tie break took the runner up trophy and cash prize of Rs 2,31,000.

Grandmaster Michael Krasenkow of Poland settled for third place with 7.5 points while grandmaster Shyam Sundar finished fourth with 7.5 points. Kresenkov received a cash prize of Rs 1,75,000 and grandmaster Shyam Sundar received a cash prize of Rs 1,35,000.

Mongolian grandmaster Batchuluun Tsegmed finished fifth with seven points and received a cash prize of Rs 1,11,000. Aaryan Varshney, Mohammed Anees and Rs Ilamparithi received prizes in the 2300-2201 category.

Earlier, the Georgian grandmaster went for a peace with Iranian international master Tabaz Arash in the ninth round. Tamil Nadu youngster Srihari (6.5 points) squeezed a fine victory over international master Aronyak Ghosh.
