Georgian country hotel is up for sale for £1 million

Grade A-listed Moffat House Hotel in Dumfries-shire is on the market for £1 million.

The Georgian mansion house in 1.4 acres of grounds dates back to 1761 when John Adam designed and built it for the 2nd Earl of Hopetoun.

It was turned into a hotel in 1950 and now operates under the Best Western brand.

Moffat House has 21 bedrooms and public rooms including a banqueting and function suite, and a two-bedroom cottage which is available for guests to rent but could be used as owner’s accommodation.

It is a popular destination for visitors touring the south of Scotland countryside and as a wedding and conference venue. The owners of 11 years plan to retire.

Colliers International director Alistair Letham said: “The Moffat House Hotel is a classic Georgian mansion house, unusually in a town centre location which all adds to the attraction of the business.

"It is easily accessible in this corner of southern Scotland, making it an ideal investment for hoteliers – experienced or first-timers – seeking an established and profitable business in an attractive location.”
