Georgia WR AD Mitchell looks back on national championship TD: ‘A dream come true’

Georgia receiver Adonai ‘A.D.’ Mitchell was one of the heroes in the national championship win that brought the Bulldogs their first title in 41 years.

It was 2nd and 18 when Georgia trailed Alabama 13-18 with just over eight minutes remaining before quarterback Stetson Bennett lobbed a perfect deep ball to the freshman on a 40-yard touchdown.

The score gave UGA their first lead of the game and the Dawgs never looked back on the way to a 33-18 win over the Crimson Tide.

This week Mitchell was asked about the historic grab that made him a household name across DawgNation.

“Everyone was just doing everything we could to come out with the W,” Mitchell said. “I was playing my role, and my number ended up being called. It was a great ball by Stetson and I was fortunate to make the catch.”

“When I got to my phone, that’s when I realized. It was crazy, it was like a dream come true. Every kid that wants to play football dreams of being on a stage like that.”

A four-star recruit in the Bulldogs 2021 class, Mitchell started 12 of 15 games for the Bulldogs last season. The door open at the ‘X’ position after star George Pickens, now a Pittsburgh Steelers’ phenom, went down with an ACL injury that spring.

The Missouri City, Texas, native played more snaps than any Georgia receiver last season and will play a big role for the Dawgs in 2022.
