Georgia TE Brock Bowers Suffers Ankle Injury vs. Vanderbilt

Georgia tight end Brock Bowers was forced to leave Saturday’s game at Vanderbilt after suffering a left ankle injury in the second quarter.

The No. 1 Bulldogs, who beat the Commodores to improve to 6-0 and 3-0 in SEC play, are hoping their offensive star is not forced to miss considerable time.

Bowers, who fell to the turf on his knees and punched the ground in apparent frustration after the injury, was helped off the field by trainers. After being taken to the medical tent, the junior standout limped to the locker room for X-rays.

At halftime, while speaking with Tiffany Blackmon of CBS Sports, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart seemed confident that Bowers would “be fine.”

“He was in good spirits,” said Smart. “He’s got a little bit of an ankle sprain on the bottom part of his foot, but he thinks he’ll be fine. We’re gonna go X-ray it and check it out.”

Bowers, one of the top offensive talents in the country, leads the Bulldogs in receptions (41), receiving yards (567) and touchdowns (four).

Fortunately for the Bulldogs, Bowers will get an extra week to recover as Georgia is on a bye next week before heading to Jacksonville to face archrival Florida on Oct. 28.
