Sekiwake Tochinoshin inched closer toward promotion to ozeki on Monday, collecting his ninth win in as many days by overpowering No. 3 maegashira Daieisho at the Summer Grand Sumo Tournament at Ryogoku Koku- gikan in Tokyo.

Toshinoshin seized Daieisho in the middle of the ring and powerfully lifted him up. The Georgian then carried Daieisho to the edge before easily forcing him out.

Tochinoshin won the New Year tournament with a 14-1 record and posted 10 wins in the Spring Tournament in March, putting him in line for promotion to ozeki this tournament.

The two yokozuna in the field stayed one win behind the sekiwake, as Haku- ho beat No. 5 maegashira Kotoshogiku with an overarm throw, while Kakuryu strongly pushed out No. 4 maegashira Shodai.

Meanwhile, Ozeki Goeido withdrew from the tournament, citing inflamed cartilage in his left ankle, which will need four weeks of treatment.

That left the basho with no ozeki, as Takayasu has skipped the tournament because of a left arm injury.
