Georgia rules on beer and wine sales in Sanford Stadium

The University of Georgia announced on Tuesday that alcohol will not be sold in general admission areas during athletic events during the 2019-2020 season.

“After consideration of the many facets involved with the Southeastern Conference’s revised alcohol policy, the Athletic Association has made the decision to maintain, at this time, the current UGA policy which prohibits the sale of alcoholic beverages in non-premium seating areas of our athletics facilities,” read a press release issued by Director of Athletics Greg McGarity. “However, we will conduct an annual review of this policy to determine if any modifications may be needed in the future.”

After the Southeastern Conference lifted the ban on alcohol sales at on-campus stadiums during the annual Destin league meetings, Georgia officials decided not to follow the lead of LSU and Ole Miss, and permit the sale of adult beverages in on-campus venues.

The SEC allows schools to sell  only beer and wine during sporting events. Georgia will serve alcohol at the SkyClub and Champion’s Club areas of Sanford Stadium and to $100,000-plus donors Magill Lounge Area.
