Georgia insisted it was plenty motivated for Friday’s Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl matchup against Cincinnati. But the Bearcats definitely looked like the more inspired team for the first three quarters.
Fortunately for the Bulldogs, there was a fourth quarter, and that one belonged to them. At the very end of it, Jack Podlesny nailed a 53-yard field goal to assure the come-from-behind win. But then, fittingly, Azeez Ojulari made one final play for the defense — capping off the game with a sack for a safety to make the final margin 24-21.
It was the third sack of the game for Ojulari and the eighth overall for the Bulldogs as they led the way in wiping out an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit.
Georgia held Cincinnati to 305 total yards and only 22 in the fourth quarter. Quarterback JT Daniels led the offense with 392 yards on 26-of-38 passing with a touchdown and an interception. Daniels’ orchestrated the Bulldogs’ final 44-yard game-winning drive that started on their own 20 with 1:28 to play.
The No. 9 Bulldogs finish the pandemic-shortened season at 8-2. It was the first loss of the season for the Bearcats (9-1), who many thought should have been included in the College Football Playoff.
