Last Saturday’s game at Georgia Tech was the largest margin of victory Georgia has ever beat the Yellow Jackets by, but it didn’t come without a price.
As if losing WR Lawrence Cager for the rest of the season to an ankle injury wasn’t bad enough, the Dawgs star RB and engine to their offensive game D’Andre Swift got placed on the injury report for the first time all season. On top of that WR George Pickens got himself suspended for the first half of the SEC Championship Game by the SEC for throwing punches.
All of this sounds like bad news for Dawgs fans, but Kirby Smart has faced a little bit of adversity in his time in Athens. Kirby has lost his offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator, top 5 receivers, a 1,000 yard rusher, a Jim Thorpe Award winner and has nearly 70% freshmen and sophomores on his team this year (youngest in all of SEC).
All of this and he still has the Bulldogs playing for a College Football Playoff for the third year in a row. Pretty incredible if you ask me.
Here’s Georgia’s full injury report ahead of the 2019 SEC Championship Game against LSU.
Probable:
Probable: RB D’Andre Swift
Head coach Kirby Smart showed concern over Swift’s shoulder following the win over Georgia Tech. Since then it seems like Swift has been healing fast and they have been monitoring him in practice. Expect #7 to be on suited up and ready to go this Saturday in Atlanta.
WR George Pickens
Pickens was suspended for the first half of the SEC Championship Game and it will be coach Smart’s decision whether he will get in for the second half, most likely depending on the score of the game. Pickens was already suspended for the first half of the Tech game for violating team rules.
Probable: DB Eric Stokes
Stokes is currently battling an upper-body injury but he has been participating in all practices.
Probable: DB Tyson Campbell
Campbell is still nursing his same toe injury, and injury that’s kept him on the injury report since the Notre Dame game. Expect Campbell to strap up and battle through it this Saturday if need be.
Probable: DE Devonte Wyatt
Wyatt did not dress for last week’s matchup against Georgia Tech with a lower-body injury. He is expected to play this Saturday.
Next: OUT
OUT: WR Lawrence Cager
Cager underwent surgery last Friday to repair a severe sprained ankle but could return in late December, depending on his response to the surgery. Cager is out for the SEC Championship Game.
OUT: OL Justin Shaffer
Shaffer suffered a neck injury during the South Carolina game and has been out since. No timetable set for his return.
OUT: OL Owen Condon
Condon was originally on the IR for a lower-body issue and was seen in a sling on his left shoulder during the Missouri game.
OUT: WR Trey Blount
Blount has been out for a few weeks for undisclosed reasons.
OUT: DT Tramel Walthour
Walthour has been battling a lower body injury pretty much all season. He dressed last weekend but did not play at all.
OUT: QB D’wan Mathis
Freshman quarterback D’wan Mathis is out indefinitely after undergoing surgery to remove a cyst from his brain this offseason. There is no current timetable for Mathis’ return.
