Georgia football is a recruiting machine at this point. The Bulldogs have three No. 1 classes in the last five years and finished with the No. 4 ranked class in the country in 2021 (247Sports).
Bleacher Report recently ranked the teams having the most success on the recruiting trail for 2022 and, surprise. UGA is right at the top – No. 3 actually. The top two teams are Alabama at No. 1, followed by Florida State at No. 2.

“It’s the second year UGA flipped a commitment from a star in-state signal-caller, following Brock Vandagriff dropping Oklahoma for Smart’s program a year ago. (Gunner) Stockton plays a fun brand of football and is a star in the making. But he is only the centerpiece of an already-loaded group of playmakers for Smart…they’re doing a good job of keeping elite players home.”
Gunner Stockton was originally committed to South Carolina and his addition is a huge part of why UGA is currently ranked No. 4 in the nation. Remember last season, the Bulldogs were slow out of the gates and only had six commits in June. Part of that could be the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic at the time, but Georgia is already looking stronger for the class of 2022.
The Bulldogs currently hold eight commits, which includes six four-star recruits in addition to five-stars Stockton and Deyon Bouie, who is an incredibly explosive athlete out of Bainbridge, Ga. The track star reminds me of Kansas City Chiefs star Tyreek Hill.
The group of four-stars include defensive tackles Tyre West and Bear Alexander, corner back Marquis-Groves Killebrew, outside linebacker Donovan Westmoreland, defensive end Darris Smith and inside linebacker C.J. Washington.
It will be interesting to see how this class will expand in the coming months as the country continues to open and the NCAA allows athletes to visit campuses.
