Georgia football DE Jermaine Johnson defends former coach and “Last Chance U” star Jason Brown

Criticism has been pouring in for Last Chance U star Jason Brown, the former head coach of Independence Community College. However, many of Brown’s former players, including Georgia defensive end Jermaine Johnson, do not feel the negative comments towards him are warranted.

The Netflix series, which premiered its fourth season last week, shows Brown’s intensity and often vulgar and aggressive coaching tactics, which received mix reviews from viewers.

Johnson, who signed with the Bulldogs as the No. 1 JUCO prospect in the country this offseason, took to Twitter to defend his former coach.

“Man that’s my dawg,” Johnson tweeted on Tuesday. “He showed a lot of tough love lol but y’all ain’t see all the times he pulled me and other players to the side and showed us that personal support and reassurance that, in my opinion are important to a players development and success. All love @TheRealCoach_JB.”

Johnson, who was featured in season 4 of the series, is expected to step in and contribute to the Bulldogs immediately on defense. A native of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Johnson (6-foot-6, 250 pounds) is a tall edge rusher who possesses a nice blend of speed and power.

As for Brown, he is no longer the coach at Independence following the release of offensive text messages from him to former player Alexandros Alexiou. The messages show Brown making an inappropriate comment about Alexiou’s German heritage.
