Georgia basketball to host top 100 prospect this weekend

Coach Tom Crean has reenergized the Georgia basketball program and currently has the nation’s seventh ranked recruiting class.

As of now, the 2019 class four players committed, all within the 247Sports top 100, including the country’s second overall player, shooting guard Anthony Edwards.

This weekend, Georgia will have an opportunity to impress another top 100 guard.

According to 247Sports’ Evan Daniels, point guard Sahvir Wheeler (Houston, TX/Houston Christian) will be in Athens this coming weekend.

Wheeler (5’8″ 175 lbs.) ranks as the nation’s No. 93 player, No. 8 point guard and Texas’ No. 9 player. He committed to Texas A&M in 2016 during his sophomore year of high school, but has since reopened his recruitment. The Aggies are still heavily involved.

Wheeler also plans to visit Iowa State next weekend and will visit A&M at a later date.

If Wheeler does wind up a Bulldog, Georgia’s No. 7 class would turn into the No. 5 class – one that would feature five top 100 players.

Assuming Wheeler attends UGA football’s G-Day this Saturday, Georgia fans will have a chance to impress not only football recruits, but basketball as well.

Current Georgia commits:

No. 2 overall player: SG Anthony Edwards

No. 62 overall player: SF Christian Brown

No. 69 overall player: SF Jaykwon Walton

No. 96 overall player: SF Toumani Camara
