Georgia baseball rises in rankings after five straight wins

The Georgia baseball team found itself back in the Top 10 Monday after five-straight victories in Athens.  A sweep of the Presbyterian Blue Hoses capped off a perfect homestand at Foley Field, which helped the Bulldogs rise to No. 8 in this week’s D1Baseball rankings, their highest position of the season.  However, the team only rose from No. 15 to No. 13 in the Collegiate Baseball poll.

Last week included victories over Alabama State, Jacksonville State and a sweep of Presbyterian. Now, Georgia has just one non-conference game left before SEC play begins, though Georgia Tech is still sprinkled throughout the schedule.

The Bulldogs travel to Atlanta Wednesday for the first game of a home and home series with Georgia State but the second stage takes place next week in Athens. This weekend, Georgia will get to face its first legitimate test of the year at No. 24 South Carolina.

The Gamecocks’ Founder’s Park holds over 8,000 fans, roughly three times as many as Foley Field, making the trip to Columbia far from easy.

However, the Bulldogs did sweep South Carolina last season and take two out of three during 2017 in the Palmetto State. Getting off to a fast start in conference play will help Georgia climb even higher on the rankings ladder and possibly crack the Top 5.
