Georgia – Auburn game will move to earlier in the season

University of Georgia President Jere Moorhead confirmed that the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry will be indeed moving up in the calendar.

Starting in 2020, Georgia will swap the Tennessee position with the Tigers.

“As I understand it, the conference has essentially flipped Auburn and Tennessee,” Moorhead said.

The game has been played in November since 1937 but Auburn has been trying to create some distance in the schedule between the Bulldogs and in-state rival Alabama.

Georgia athletic director Greg McGarity said head coach Kirby Smart signed off on the change and was happy with the 2020 schedule.

Georgia has won 13 out of its last 18 games with Auburn. In 2012 and 2013, Georgia played consecutive games in Jordan-Hare Stadium to accommodate Missouri and Texas A&M joining the conference. Why the favor hasn’t been returned, has been a sore spot with Kirby Smart and the fan base.
