A feud is brewing between rapper Jay-Z and George Zimmerman, who was acquitted in the killing of Trayvon Martin, according to media outlets.
It all started with a documentary that Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter and the Weinstein Company are teaming up on about the 2012 shooting, as reported by Variety.
Now, The Blast is reporting that Zimmerman threatened to beat up Jay-Z and feed him to an alligator after a production team sought out interviews with Zimmerman's family.
Rapper Snoop Dogg seems to have jumped in on the feud, writing on Instagram:
"If one hair on Jays hair is touched that's when the revolution will b televised. ... Trayvon Martin Gone but not forgotten."
When reached by the Orlando Sentinel, Zimmerman declined in text messages to comment about reports of a feud but instead emailed depositions from the 2012 case. He said a film crew was thrown off his uncle's property after trespassing.
"Jay-Z and Harvey Weinstein were attempting to drag me through the mud again," Zimmerman recently told the website Big League Politics.
A Seminole County jury acquitted Zimmerman of second-degree murder in the shooting death of Martin, an unarmed black teen. The case sparked national protests.
Zimmerman shot Trayvon as the two fought on the ground near Zimmerman's Sanford home. Zimmerman said he shot the teenager in self-defense, that Trayvon had punched him in the nose, breaking it and knocking him to the ground, then climbed on top and begun hammering his head against a sidewalk.
In the weeks after the shooting, while Sanford police persisted in their decision not to arrest Zimmerman, thousands of protesters took to the streets, not just in Sanford but in major cities across the country as well as Europe.
Civil-rights leaders, including the Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr. and the Rev. Al Sharpton, came to Sanford and led thousands of people in marches and rallies in March 2012.
