George Williams' first words after joining Bristol Rovers from MK Dons

George Williams believes Bristol Rovers have signed a player in his "prime" and is confident he can make an immediate impact at the Mem.

The 27-year-old completed a permanent move to the Gas on Thursday after spending five years at MK Dons.

There the right-back won a League Two promotion under Paul Tisdale, and the defender highlighted the Rovers boss as a key factor in his move to the West Country.

"I’m really excited," Williams told the club's website. "I was at MK for five seasons but this is a fresh challenge.

"I spoke to Tis quite a bit over the last week or so and I can’t wait to get going.

"We won promotion with Tis at MK and we had a fantastic season. I loved working with him, I like his philosophy on football and it was a big draw as soon as I found out there was interest here.

"I had a few conversations and I couldn’t wait to get here."

Williams racked up 174 appearances for MK, adding experience and competition to an area Tisdale has been eager to bolster.

With Rovers hovering just over the League One relegation zone as the midway point of the season nears, veteran leaders will come in handy and Williams is ready to help the Gas climb the table.

"I’ve played quite a few games, I’ve played quite a bit in non-league as well and at university, so I’m quite experienced," he continued.

"I’m 27 now, I feel like it’s the prime of my career and I’m really looking forward to getting out on the pitch and working hard.

"I’m a right-back, but I’m very versatile. I’ve played everywhere across a back four or five.

"I’m a hard-working guy, I work hard every day and give my all for the team. I like to get forward but I like to defend first and foremost.

"Hopefully I can show the fans and the team what I’m about. I want to play as many games as I can and help the boys climb up the table."
