George Williams confirms Warrington Wolves debut date

George Williams is set to make his long-awaited Warrington Wolves debut against Leeds Rhinos on Sunday.

The halfback is back in Super League after an 18-month stint in the NRL, but has yet to mark his return despite signing for the Wolves last month.

Williams opted for the Wire over a return to Wigan, who the Wolves beat on Wednesday. The halfback had hoped to make his debut in that game but has yet been cleared to play.

But speaking on Sky Sports News, Williams confirmed that it was likely he would make his bow at Headingley on Sunday, against another side that had made a play for the England international.

"Hopefully I'll be up for selection," he said.

"I've got to do a few more protocols and runs but hopefully I'll be putting my hands up to play at Leeds, it's one of the best grounds to play at.

"Warrington have put themselves in a great position. They've been playing really well, they had a slip up against Leeds a couple of weeks ago but on the whole, they're going good and I just want to add my touch and see what we can do.

"We're fighting for trophies, that's what everyone wants to do. Everyone jokes about Warrington never winning one and that's what I want to do."

He is likely to partner Blake Austin in the halves, with Gareth Widdop still injured.
