George Square Christmas lights switch-on - everything you need to know

It’s that time of year where the temperature plummets in Glasgow and darkness falls by dinner time... But something else comes along to illuminate the city centre.

If you’ve been counting down the days until you can get your ice skates on and enjoy a hot mulled wine underneath a massive 40ft Christmas tree, then you’ll be happy to know the wait is almost over.

The Christmas lights will be turned on this Sunday and officially allow us all to get into the festive spirit. If you’re planning on braving the cold for the magical moment, here’s everything you need to know.

Are there still tickets available?

Tickets for 16,000 lucky people were available through a ballot application for the Glasgow Love Christmas event, which is now no longer accepting applications.

If you applied for tickets in time, Glasgow Love Christmas should have sent an email informing you whether or not you have been successful. Remember to check your junk folder!

The west end’s Christmas light event will take place on Sunday 1 December at 5.30pm, complete with a Christmas market of local crafts, food and drink. The market will open at 11am and can be found on Vinicombe Street, just off Byres Road.
