George RR Martin went to the Jets training camp on Wednesday, and everyone who is into Game of Thrones and science fiction and the Jets and the NFL was very excited. Jokes about fantasy football were up 987% on the day.

Martin is from New Jersey, and he supports the Jets and the Giants, for double the football misery pleasure. At the Jets training facility, Martin met some of the players, and GM Mike Maccagnan.
“I think all the players should read the books,” said Martin with admirable modesty.
D’Brickashaw Ferguson also sat with Martin, who wore his Jets cap. We can speculate that the pair discussed dwarves, dragons, iron thrones, ruling kingdoms, and whether Todd Bowles is better than Rex Ryan.

Maccagnan said he was a fan of Martin’s work. “I’m a big fan of Mr Martin as a writer, and I love the series, so it was a pleasure to spend the afternoon with him and his wife,” Maccagnan said. “It was great to talk Jets history with them and hear how closely they have always followed the team.”
Martin likes Tri-State area baseball, too: he’s planning to watch the Staten Island Yankees on Saturday night. The game will take on a Game of Thrones theme, with the Yankees playing as the Staten Island Direwolves and the visiting Hudson Valley Renegades dressing in the gold and red colors of the House of Lannister.
