George RR Martin says three more Game of Thrones shows are moving forward 'nicely'

George RR Martin has teased the future of Game of Thrones on television.

The author, behind the show’s basis, the A Song of Ice and Fire book series, wrote on his official blog that work is proceeding “nicely” on three of the proposed Game of Thrones-based shows at HBO.

“Oh, and speaking of television, don’t believe everything you read,” the post reads. “Internet reports are notoriously unreliable. We have had five different Game of Thrones successor shows in development (I mislike the term ‘spin-offs’) at HBO, and three of them are still moving forward nicely.”

“The one I am not supposed to call ‘The Long Night’ will be shooting later this year, and two other shows remain in the script stage, but are edging closer,” Martin continues. ”What are they about? I cannot say. But maybe some of you should pick up a copy of Fire & Blood and come up with your own theories.”

The first volume of Fire & Blood was released last year, with the series detailing the complete history of House Targaryen, starting with Aegon the Conqueror, who created the Iron Throne.

Season eight, meanwhile, will provide a conclusion to the main Game of Thrones narrative, with episode four moving events to King’s Landing, as the survivors of the Night King battle prepare to take on Cersei Lannister, Euron Greyjoy and The Golden Company.

Photos show Jon, Daenerys, Tormund, Grey Worm and Samwell bearing torches in memory of Theon, Beric, Lyanna and Ser Jorah.

Game of Thrones is available on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK, and on HBO in the US.
