Most Game of Thrones fans are currently wondering who will end up on the Iron Throne, but George R R Martin has his eyes set on a whole other political battle – one taking place in the real world.
The author publicly picked a side in the 2020 presidential race over the weekend, backing Joe Biden in a blog post.
“I was pleased that Joe Biden finally announced his candidacy for president,” Martin wrote.
“There are a lot of good Democrats running, maybe too many, and I’d probably vote for any one of them over the present blot upon the Oval Office.”
Martin explained that he’s looking for a nominee who can “beat Trump” as well as “someone who would actually be a good/great president”.
“Biden qualifies on both counts,” he added. “Also, the speech he gave announcing his run was kickass... and so, so true. I wish him well.”
Martin appeared to be referring to the speech given by Biden in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, last week after he officially announced his presidential run.
Biden said among other remarks: “The only thing that can tear America apart is America itself. Everybody knows who Donald Trump is. And I believe — I believe in hope.
“We have to let them know who we are. We Democrats, we independents who have the same view have to choose hope over fear, unity over division, and most importantly truth over lies.”
