George ‘planned’ on criticizing refs until he saw his 20 free throws

Thunder forward Paul George has been highly critical of the way he has been officiated this season. In most cases, he believes the referees miss a lot of calls on him.

That wasn’t the case on Thursday night.

George scored 32 points to help lead the Thunder to a 129-121 win in overtime against the Portland Trail Blazers at the Moda Center. George attempted a career-high 20 free throws in the contest, hitting 17 of them.

As a result, he took it easy on the officials afterward.

It’s kinda weird because I planned on losing my money until I saw I shot 20 free throws. I had a lot of words for the officiating tonight but I guess I can’t say much with 20 free throws.

For George, it has been a constant battle this season with the referees. He often believes he is unfairly officiated but that didn’t appear to be the case on Thursday.

Since returning from the All-Star break, George has struggled to shoot from the field but he managed to have a strong night from the line.

As it turned out, the Thunder needed all of those points to secure the W.
