George North's savage put-down of former England footballer Jamie Redknapp

George North delivered a savage put-down aimed at former England footballer Jamie Redknapp when the Wales star said: "I don't play a silly game".

North, who missed out on this summer's Lions tour through injury, aired the swipe while appearing on A League of Their Own, where he was a guest on Freddie Flintoff's team alongside Sky Sports and talkSPORT presenter Laura Woods.

Entering the set to applause and a standing ovation following a video montage of some of his best moments, North's appearance on the show began with London Welsh Male Voice Choir performing Bread of Heaven before the sports quiz show got down to business.

In the first episode of a new series, viewers are treated to a trip down memory lane when North hoisted Australian giant Israel Folau over his shoulder and carried him backwards during a Lions Test against the Wallabies in 2013.

The now icon confrontation saw the Osprey bring the Melbourne crowd to its feet as he grappled with Folau, slung him over his shoulder and powered forward while still holding onto the ball.

The incident replay prompted opposing quiz show team captain Redknapp to ask: "Is that the equivalent of nut-megging someone in football?"

North quipped back: "I don't play a silly game, but in rugby, yeah, that's pretty good."

The jibe prompted open-mouthed reaction and hysterics from all but silent Redknapp himself, before host Romesh Ranganathan said into his earpiece: "Before we carry on, can we see if we can get some antiseptic cream for that burn?"

Ouch!

  • A League of Their Own is being aired at 9pm on Thursday, August 19 on Sky One.
