Garda shooting victim George Nkencho is to be buried in Ireland next month, his family revealed.
The 27-year-old, who suffered from mental health issues, was killed outside his family home on the Manorfields estate in West Dublin after lunging at officers with a knife.
Gardai were responding to an attack at a nearby shop and opened fire after pepper spray and tasers failed to stop him.
An investigation into the shooting is underway by the Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission.
George’s father Noisike Nkencho told The Irish Daily Star: “We want to bury him here in Ireland.
“I considered Nigeria but the issue of tradition, Covid, finance and so on is there.
“To be honest, I don’t think I am in a better position to know what George would have wanted. He has dual citizenship. We have decided for him. Putting primarily he spent all his life here.”
Last week, George’s sister Gloria called for a public inquiry into the death.
She said: “This is an unimaginable pain that I do not wish upon anyone.
“The death of my brother has caused a vacuum in my home.
“He needed help, not bullets.”
