George Michael's sister died in her mansion on third anniversary of superstar’s death

George Michael’s sister died after falling into a diabetic coma on the third anniversary of her superstar brother’s death, we can reveal.

Melanie Panayiotou, 59, died last Christmas Day, her body discovered at her £6.2million home in Hampstead, north-west London, which had previously belonged to George.

The cause of death was shrouded in mystery but a post-mortem was carried out and in March it was certified as “diabetic ketoacidosis”.

It is a caused by a lack of insulin and raised blood sugar.

Diabetes was given as an underlying cause of death, with hypertensive heart disease, obesity and bronchopneumonia conditions cited as contributing factors.

Police called to the house at the time by paramedics said Melanie’s death was not being treated as suspicious and a report was compiled for the coroner.

A family source at the time said Melanie, who was exceptionally close to her brother, died from a broken heart. George, 53, died on Christmas Day, 2016, at his home in Goring-on-Thames, Oxon, from heart and liver disease.

A private person with a low profile, Melanie joined her brother on tours in the 1980s when he was in Wham!

She was buried in Highgate Cemetery next to her mother and George.
