George Michael ruled out ABBA-style avatar show as Tupac's hologram was 's***'

George Michael ruled out ever starring in an ABBA-style avatar show because Tupac’s hologram was “s***”.

His close friend and collaborator David Austin says the team discussed creating a hologram of George before he died in 2016.

Now, David vows “never” to let George be depicted that way.

He says: “We were thinking about doing something at the Royal Albert Hall. We had an idea: in the middle of Fastlove, where the rain comes down in the video, we looked at a hologram in the middle of the Royal Albert Hall which we thought would blow people away.

“I had all these people courting me – and they’d done the Tupac hologram.

“I went to look at a lot of them and they were s***. They were really poor. It just did not work.”

Speaking at the launch of the George Michael documentary Freedom: Uncut, ahead of its release next week, David said he was intrigued to see ABBA’s East London show. He said: “They’ve obviously thrown loads of money at it and it’s jammed full of hits.”

But, he said: “The problem with holograms is that people don’t engage sub-consciously. They know it is a hologram and once they have seen it, people are on their phones. I just saw the Michael Jackson thing in New York and it looked like a tribute act.”

Paul O'Grady

Is it the preserved plait from a primeval drag artist or could Paul O’Grady have disturbed Kent’s very own Pandora’s Box?

The TV presenter discovered a jar of brined hair while digging on his farm. He noted, cautiously: “I haven’t opened it and have no intention of doing so.

“In fact, I’m going to bury it again as it’s not only odd, but slightly creepy.”

Other celebs were alarmed.

TV chef Andi Oliver said: “That’s definitely some old magic power. Yikes!!”

Radio 2’s Zoe Ball said: “This is like something from Tales of the Unexpected. Mary Lou’s plait buried to bring a good harvest.”

Paul took it to a nearby wood, where he buried it. He said: “I’m not taking any chances.”

Calvin Harris

He’s a multi-millionaire DJ who has headlined festivals, held a Las Vegas residency and lives on party isle Ibiza.

But for Calvin Harris the biggest gig was playing on Liverpool FC’s bus.

The Reds fan describes his four-hour set during last month’s parade as “the most unreal experience in my entire life”.

It was only heightened when they ran out of power and, while moving, had to run a cable from a fireworks truck to keep his decks going. “I’m like, ‘Crank it to 11!’” he tells Capital radio. Imagine if they’d actually won the Champions League the night before...
