LONDON (AP) — The Royal Mint has released a commemorative coin featuring the late musician George Michael, offering fans a chance to own a piece of memorabilia honoring the iconic artist. The coin, available in silver and gold versions, showcases Michael's likeness in his trademark aviator-style sunglasses, reminiscent of his iconic 'Faith' music video look.

The silver-colored coin is priced at 15.50 pounds ($19.66) and the limited edition 2-ounce gold coin is priced at 5,305 pounds ($6,728), catering to fans with varying budgets and preferences.

George Michael, who passed away in 2016 at the age of 53, has continued to receive posthumous recognition for his contributions to the music industry. In 2023, he was the subject of a well-received Netflix documentary titled 'WHAM!', which explored his career with musical partner Andrew Ridgeley.

Additionally, Michael was posthumously inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, further solidifying his legacy as a music icon. His enduring popularity was evident when 'Last Christmas', a hit song from his WHAM! days, topped the U.K. Christmas charts in December.

George Michael Entertainment expressed gratitude for the tribute, stating that the late artist would have been proud and touched by the honor bestowed upon him by a national institution. The Royal Mint has previously released commemorative coins featuring other music legends such as David Bowie, Elton John, the Rolling Stones, and Queen.
