The 49ers got bad news on their injury report in their first practice leading up to the NFC championship game against the Packers.
All-Pro tight end George Kittle sat out the session due to ankle soreness resulting from last Saturday’s divisional round win over the Vikings. Kittle missed two games earlier in the year with knee and ankle injuries after taking a hit to the knee on the first play of the 49ers’ Week 9 win over the Cardinals.
Kittle bounced back from that injury to have a productive end of the season, but his missed practice after catching just three balls for 16 yards in the divisional round isn’t exactly promising.
Defensive end Dee Ford sat out as well as he continues nursing hamstring and quad injuries. His day off was precautionary according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. That would be the best case scenario for Kittle as well.
We’ll keep a very close eye on his status throughout the week. It’s only a small concern for now, but if he misses the next couple days, that concern will grow.
