George Harrison play to hit Mersey theatre in time for ex-Beatle's 80th birthday

A play celebrating the life of George Harrison is set to show at a Merseyside theatre.

The ex-Beatle would have been 80 on February 25 of this year, however Harrison died in 2001 at the age of 58 from complications with lung cancer. The UK-wide tour, Something About George - The George Harrison Story celebrates the "quiet Beatle's" life in the band and beyond.

West End star Daniel Taylor will star in the show, fronting the band and telling George's story as they perform some of Harrison's biggest hits- both with the Fab Four and solo.

Some of the classic songs in the play include My Sweet Lord, Something, Got My Mind Set On You, and Handle With Care. Something About George showcases his solo material as well as a few Fab Four classics.

Bill Elms, co-producer, said: "It may be 20 years since the world lost George Harrison, but he lives on through his incomparable music, and this show created in Liverpool, highlights the legacy he left the world.

"He may have been the 'Quiet Beatle' but he still speaks loudly through his wonderful songs. It’s going to be a night to remember."

Something About George will be shown at St Helens Theatre Royal on Friday, February 24, at 7:30pm. You can buy tickets here.
