George Groves explains why Luke Campbell can beat Vasyl Lomachenko

Luke Campbell has been backed to beat Vasyl Lomachenko by his former gym-mate George Groves.

The Brit takes on the pound-for-pound No.1 next weekend in what is the toughest fight in boxing.

Lomachenko was a world champion after three professional fights and has since won belts in three weight divisions.

He will clash with Campbell for three of the lightweight belts in London - and most are giving the challenger little chance.

But Groves, who trained with Campbell before retiring, is not one of them.

"Usually when a fight gets closer the opinions on who will win becomes more 50-50. But this feels like not enough people are giving Luke a chance. But people don't see the day-to-day," he told Sky Sports.

"If you're in awe of Lomachenko he will have his way with you.

"With all due respect to [Lomachenko's last opponent] Anthony Crolla let's not get popularity confused with ability. Luke would have done the same thing to Crolla. Luke and Crolla are a different pedigree, a different ability.

"We haven't seen the best of Luke yet. He got on the floor in the first round against Jorge Linares and lost a split decision in the States - at the time, Linares was [one of the pound-for-pound best]. People see the L and just say: 'he got beat'.

"Don't write Campbell off. This is his coming of age fight."

Campbell, who lost his previous world title challenge to Jorge Linares, is adamant he an upset the odds.

"I’ve never shied sway from a challenge, this is a big one but it is the type of challenge I train and prepare for everyday," he said.

"I believe this is the two best lightweights in the division that are dancing off and this brings everything to the table. Power, speed, ability, this fight has everything."
