GEORGE Galloway has responded after Israel published images on social media falsely identifying him as a Hamas leader.
On Tuesday, Israel published claims it said prove the Global Sumud Flotilla – a historic civilian mission sailing to Gaza with humanitarian aid – is directly linked with the terrorist group Hamas, which was responsible for the October 7, 2023, attacks.
The official Israeli foreign ministry Twitter/X account shared two images which had a red circle around a man, claiming he is a Palestinian Hamas member tied to the flotilla.

However, the man circled in the images has since been identified as former MP George Galloway.
One of the pictures shows Galloway, who was born in Dundee and is not Palestinian, alongside a Hamas leader.

Galloway did meet with Hamas in 2009 while he was an MP, where he was given a Palestinian passport.
Responding on Twitter/X, Galloway said: "On Tuesday the Israeli government has published my photographs with a target circle round my head in an absurd but deadly smear against Greta Thurnberg and the flotilla bound for Gaza.
"A British Palestinian man Zaher Birawi who has worked freely in and around Parliament for decades is fingered as Greta’s Hamas handler and mastermind of the flotilla. But his pictures which Israel has published globally are actually pictures of me.
"For the record: I have nothing to do with Hamas or the flotilla. I have not seen or spoken to Mr Birawi in more than a decade. I wish God speed to the flotilla and call for a free Palestine from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea."
The post has gone viral online, with many pointing out that the figure circled is indeed Galloway.
However, the Israeli Foreign Ministry has not offered any response or deleted the post.
