George Floyd death LATEST: Trump criticises 'total lack of leadership' as Minneapolis declares state of emergency

Minneapolis has declared a state of emergency as thousands of protesters continue to flood the streets to demand justice for George Floyd.

Four police officers were fired on Tuesday after footage emerged of Mr Floyd lying face down in the street, gasping for air while a white officer knelt on his neck for several minutes. In the clip, Mr Floyd is heard shouting "I can't breathe" and "Don't kill me."

After three nights of riots in the Minnesota city, Donald Trump threatened that looters will be shot, adding that the National Guard would be ordered to "get the job done right" if the city is not "brought under control".

He also criticised the mayor for a "total lack of leadership", and described the protesters as "thugs". The tweet was later hidden by Twitter for "glorifying violence".
