George Fant suffers sprained ankle in preseason opener against Broncos

The Seahawks tight end group got a little bit thinner Thursday night when George Fant limped off the field in the first half of Seattle’s preseason opener against Denver. After a visit to the locker room, Fant was declared doubtful to return.

Coach Pete Carroll confirmed during his post-game press conference that Fant had indeed sprained his ankle and calling it “legit.” Fortunately for Seattle, there were no other major injuries.

The Seahawks are already battling a number of issues at the tight end position and health of the group is becoming a concern.

Ed Dickson, who just underwent surgery, is expected to be out for four to five weeks. Will Dissly did not participate Thursday night, hopeful to return to the field soon for the first time since Week 4 last season. Jacob Hollister, acquired in a trade with the Patriots this April, has been dealing with a groin strain since Saturday’s scrimmage.

Carroll was not able to estimate yet how long Fant might take to recover.

As for the rest of the Seahawks, the squad has 10 days before their next preseason matchup when Seattle travels to Minnesota to face the Vikings Aug. 18.
