George Fant could be back in time for Seahawks season opener

The Seattle Seahawks escaped their preseason opener against the Denver Broncos with very few injuries to report. However, tackle/tight end George Fant suffered an ankle sprain in the first half and limped off to the locker room.

During his post-game press conference, coach Pete Carroll called Fant’s injury “legit,” but had some better news to report Sunday afternoon.

“It’s like a second-degree type of sprain,” Carroll said. “It’s gonna take him a few weeks. We feel really comfortable with what George can do, he reported in great shape and really strong and all of that. We know the role we want to play him in. So he’ll come back to us, it will just take weeks to get that done.

“He’ll be shooting to get back for the opener.”

Fant isn’t the only tight end battling an injury this summer. Ed Dickson is expected out four to five weeks following knee surgery and Jacob Hollister is still recovering from a groin strain he sustained in the mock game two weeks ago.

Fortunately for Seattle, tight end Will Dissly – who missed the preseason opener – could be available when the Seahawks next square off against the Vikings.
