George Ezra’s chart-topping single “Shotgun” has been named the biggest song of the summer, the singer-songwriter beating stiff competition from Calvin Harris, Dua Lipa and Drake

According to the Official Charts Company, from June 1 to August 31, the track accumulated 820,000 combined sales – made up of 67 million audio streams, 24 million video streams and 168,000 downloads.

“Shotgun” managed to defeat ”One Kiss,” a collaboration between Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa, which spent eight weeks at number one and logged 608,000 combined sales over the same time period.

Ezra said in a message: “Thank you very much to all of you that have come and seen us live, played the song, shared it with your friends and family and sung along with us. It’s been an amazing summer.”

“Shotgun” spent four non-consecutive weeks in the top spot, interrupted by comedy duo David Baddiel and Frank Skinner’s football anthem “Three Lions” during the heat of the world cup.

Drake’s “In My Feelings” also broke the tracks run at number one, the Canadian rapper’s tune boosted by a viral video dance challenge that saw celebrities, including Will Smith, dancing to it.

The song claims the number three spot, while Drake’s ”Nice For What” comes sixth. His duet with Michael Jackson, “Don’t Matter To Me,” and “God’s Plan” – both from the album Scorpion – were also in the top 25.

Completing the top 5 was “Solo” by Clean’s Bandit, featuring US singer Demi Lovato, and “2002” by Anne-Marie.
