George Edmundson transfer news as Ipswich Town make their move for Rangers defender

Rangers defender George Edmundson is being targeted for a move back to English football with Ipswich Town keen on luring him south.

Last month, we told you how Edmundson had been the subject of several bids from English lower-league clubs after spending last season on-loan at Wayne Rooney's Derby County, and playing an important role in the Rams avoiding relegation from the Championship on the final day of the season.

His impressive run of form led to Derby attempting to sign him permanently, as we told you in June, with Peterborough United also credited with a serious interest.

However, despite Steven Gerrard rejecting those bids, League One side Ipswich are thought to be closing in on a move for the 23-year-old, with the Daily Record reporting that the Ibrox club are open to doing business.

Edmundson has appeared on several occasions during Rangers' pre-season schedule but with the likes of Connor Goldson, Leon Balogun, Nikola Katic and Filip Helander all vying for a starting berth next season, the former Oldham defender looks unlikely to be a regular first-team player.
